Molloy’s Market Fruit and Veg
ProduceAbout
Our stall in the Central Market has always sold Fruit & Veg under various family names and in 2014 I took over and revamped and renamed the stall as ‘Molloy’s’. We were growing a variety of fruit and veg at the time and we wanted to be able to sell as much of our local produce as we could direct to our customers.
We seek to support local producers as much as possible to meet the needs of our customers, both local and visiting. Offering fresh, quality produce in a clean, interesting, happy and friendly environment is what we’re all about.
The girls that work at Molloy’s have worked in the Markets for many years. Our funky Michele has been here over 40 years and Sylvie 20 years – she worked for the previous family too.
As for myself I ran a florist in the Market for 8 years before establishing Molloy’s 9 years ago. I think it’s fair to say that between us we have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Markets, our stall, and our produce. Our shop is like a family and we’re very proud of that.
We always have a large selection of produce at any one time, ranging from our seasonal local and imported goods to our all year round imported exotic fruits, vegetables and dried produce – all of which is sourced on behalf of Molloy’s from all around the world by our agents in Covent Garden, London.
We also make our very own seasonal preserves, pickles, chutneys , jams and marmalades right here in our fully equipped preserving kitchen for which we hold a 5 star eat safe rating. Our Jersey strawberry and Jersey raspberry jams are a firm favourites with locals and visitors alike. Friday is bake day on which we make handmade giant fruit scones, flapjacks and a surprise bake of the day!!! We make bespoke handmade preserve hampers and fresh fruit and vegetable baskets and arrangements all year round for special occasions and at Christmas we are inundated from all around the world with orders for Islanders.
We have a lot of culinary inspiration on our stall so if customers are at a loss to know what to make for dinner we can usually help to inspire them and if they are looking for a specific ingredient we may be able to help with that too. We are a friendly community so if it’s just a friendly chat or a glance through a good old fashioned cookery book or magazine we are happy to help here too.
